General Eligibility Requirements

To receive financial assistance from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, a student must:

  • - Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • - Be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
  • - Demonstrate satisfactory academic progress.
  • - Sign a Statement of Educational Purpose.
  • - Be registered with the Selective Service if required to do so by Federal Law.
Additionally, a student may not be in default of, nor owe a refund for, any financial assistance previously received. 

It is recommended that you obtain a copy of your credit report as part of the financial assistance process. Students applying for Alternative / Private Loans must be credit-worthy as determined by the lender. 

To avoid delays due to a negative credit history, it is important that you review the information on your report for accuracy and resolve any discrepancies before submitting your loan application(s).

Steps for Applying for Aid

The following checklist should help guide you through the process of applying for financial assistance. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us!

1. File a completed FAFSA with the Department of Education (UMMSM Code E00533).
2. Complete the application for diversity scholarships and grants (if desired).
3. Complete the Stafford Loan Program Master Promissory Note.
4. Complete and submit the Request for Federal Stafford Loan Funds form.
5. Complete the Entrance Interview (if a first time borrower at the University of Miami).

Lending Principles

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine recognizes that ensuring the integrity of the student financial aid process is critical to providing fair and affordable access to higher education.
