Welcome!
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is the oldest and largest medical school in the State of Florida. Founded in 1952 with just 28 students, the school's enrollment now exceeds 750 students on two campuses. The main medical campus is located in Miami at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital Medical Center, one of the largest and busiest health care centers in the nation. The regional campus is located at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.
The Miller School of Medicine, with a faculty of more than 1300 physicians, educators and scientists, is committed to excellence in education, health care, research and community service. The medical center offers a comprehensive educational opportunity and an outstanding learning environment for medical students. The school also has a long-standing commitment to enlarging the pool of qualified under-represented minorities and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in pursuing medicine as a career. For more than 30 years, the school has sponsored minority student programs that have helped hundreds of students achieve their career goal of entering medical school and other health professions.
Medical College Admissions Test Program
The goal of the Medical College Admissions Test Preparation Program, offered in collaboration with the UM Area Health Education Center (AHEC), is to help minority and disadvantaged pre-medical students prepare for the MCAT. The program includes class lectures covering the content found on the Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Verbal Reasoning components of the test. Lectures also help prepare students for the written portion of the MCAT.
As part of the program, participants will receive advice on study and test-taking strategies. Seminars will be offered to provide students advice about the process of applying to medical school and completing applications. Students will also be given the opportunity to shadow physicians at one of UM/JMH teaching hospitals.
The 2009 program will run from Monday, June 8th, 2009 through Friday, July 31st, 2009.
