only to current students of the School of Medicine.

|
What software do I need to view the online lectures?
|
You need Real's RealPlayer 10.
You can download just the player for free at their web site here.
We currently use two programs, both from Real, to record the lectures: Helix and
Real Producer.

|
Do I need a fast Internet connection to view the videos?
|
A DSL or Cable connection presents the lectures as normal video; these are the best methods for viewing
them. Those students wanting to make the most out of the online experience should have such a broadband connection.
While the lectures can be viewed using a 56K modem, the presentation is more of a slide
show. The viewer sees a series of images that do not flow smoothly. Useful when a faster connection is not available.
In either case the audio reception should be excellent.

Where do I find the archived lectures?
|
All archived video files are accessed through the Online Schedule, where each week of
the school year is reached through a cell in a horizontal bar graph. All the lectures are displayed for each day
of the selected week.
When you click on a given lecture, you have access to any material your teacher may post
there for you. You can see the archived video by clicking on the link "View video -- of --" shown along
with the other information.
There may be several videos for a given lecture.
The videos are also available when you navigate to the Course Listings, where all material associated with
a given course is aggregated for your convenience. If you select to view All Elements or Videos Only on the
Course Listings page, for the course you wish to view, the videos will be listed when you click Go.

Why are some lecture videos missing?
|
There can be several reasons for this:
There may have been a technical problem with the complicated process of recording, transferring,
and archiving a file. In these cases the file is altogether lost or destroyed, and cannot be saved. This is rare
by now, as our equipment and procedures are continually improved.
A human error was made in linking, displaying, or naming the file. This is not destructive
and it is simply linked again.
We may have been requested by the teacher not to have the lecture recorded. This is beyond
our control, but you may attempt speaking to the lecturer about it.
If it's a recent file, it may not have been posted yet. This is mostly due to a file that
needs editing or added processing.

How do I know what happened?
|
When you click on a particular lecture you will see one of the following:
Normally you will see a link that will display the recorded video for that lecture.
You will also see a note if the lecture's file was lost due to a problem, or the recording
was not allowed by the teacher.
There may be a link but it doesn't work. The link is "broken" and, more than
likely, an error was made in the posting of the file. In this case, we encourage you to let us know about it in
person or with an email. This is easily corrected.
