Incoming freshman medical students have several options for starting the search for housing in Miami or Boca. Here are three resources available to all students to find a place to live, regardless of the campus you will be attending:

  1. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MiamiMed2013/ which is a web site set up by one of our freshman medical students where all incoming freshmen and current medical students can look for room mates and apartments among themselves. This is available to students on either campus.

  2. Go to www.apartments.com and select the appropriate area to identify more apartment possibilities.

  3. Go to www.propertiesMD.com/miami and look for other properties that are for rent. This web site specializes in long distance housing placements.

Finding a Place to Live in Miami

Students attending the Miami Campus have several additional options, as do students attending the Boca Campus. Here are several other possibilities for students attending the Miami Campus:

  1. Contact some of the medical students you met when you were here for your interview. You should have copied down their email addresses. In case you've lost their addresses, send an email to the Office of Admissions and we'll forward your message to them.

  2. Using the Off-Campus Housing, keep in mind that the distances listed between the apartment and campus are actually between the apartment and the Coral Gables Campus of the University of Miami, not the medical campus. So you should have a fairly detailed map of Miami before visiting this site. For a good city map, try the travel section of Barnes & Noble, Borders or Walden Books.

  3. Go to www.miami.com and follow the thread for finding an apartment. This is the web site of the Miami Herald.

  4. Both Jackson Towers and Dominion Towers are adjacent to the Miami campus. There is usually a waiting list for renters and the sooner you get put on their lists, the better. The phone number for Dominion Towers is 305-324-0900 and the phone number for Jackson Towers is 305-585-5720.

  5. Other popular apartment buildings for medical students on the Miami campus are Biscayne View, Banyan Bay, Morton Towers, North Bay Landing, and Southgate Towers. Popular areas in which to live include Brickell Avenue and South Beach.

  6. Since parking at the Miami campus is both limited and expensive, many students choose to commute via Metrorail (fair currently $2.00, discounted monthly parking passes are available) to commute from their apartments along the Metrorail line (Brickell, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Kendall). The Metrorail station at the medical school (Civic Center Station) is just two blocks from the medical school.
